La Befana will soon arrive...
For those of you who know her, she is a Magical Icon that is adored and celebrated at this time of the year. Growing up Italian..of course ...you will know who La Befana is...she is the Good Witch "Strega" that comes on the Eve of Little Christmas, January 6th... also known as the Feast of the Epiphany.
There are many stories and legends about her..
..All will charm your Heart.
For those who don't know of her...a simple note..she arrives tonight..little children await her with excitement..maybe they will catch a glimpse of her riding on her Magical Broomstick. Tomorrow is known as Little Christmas to us Italian folk!
In Italy there are many festive events where many people gather and dress as La Befana, singing songs and celebrating in the Spirit of this Magical Strega! ( Boy ..I wish I was there now!)
She also is known to have followed the Star and have found the Baby Jesus....some legends say she is "still searching" for the Christ Child. There are many different tales..whatever story you were brought up with..they are all magical.
The Befana is traditionally known as an Old Crone..the Good Witch with a broomstick..and by some is also celebrated as the Beautiful Goddess Fauna( her other Ancient depiction).
Enjoy the Magical Blessings of this legend.. whether you celebrate her as a Christmas Crone..or in her guise as Goddess Fauna.
If she is new to you..she is the
Italian Goddess of Nature..
She represents the Beautiful Forests,
the Beauty of Wildlife and All Creatures..
All of Nature....all "Fauna"...Animals....big and small
Nature's Plants, Trees, Flowers, Fruits...
She brings
Prosperity & Abundance
in All forms..
She is a symbol
of Fertility and New life.
May you Recieve the Magic of La Befana
this very night..
and the Gifts of Goddess Fauna
throughout the year!
This is a speical time for those who oberve the Epiphany... Wishing you Blessings of Little Christmas..and Blessings of the Befana!
Buon Natale!

Hi Kiki,
I have never heard of La Befana, although I live very close to Italy. I guess it might be celebrated in parts of Croatia that are closer to Italy.

Haven't heared about Befana, but i learned of the story about Santa Claus and the story behind hanging Christmas tree balls, from my recent Turkey trip. In this post i specifically appreciate your lights and the photo of the red mushroom. I didn't know there is such. Splendid red!
By the way, thank you very much for signing in as a follower of my blogspot. This humbled me though.
